It has been a few weeks since my husband (Jim) and I completed Journey of Generosity facilitated by Evan Carter. Evan was an excellent facilitator; not a teacher, nor did he push his personal opinions, but instead, he asked provocative questions that led to great discussions within community. I have gone back and looked over my notes. My hope was to learn how to APPLY the concept that all I have really belongs to God and discover how to be a good steward of all that God has entrusted to me. As the title says this is a JOURNEY, and I feel that I am one step further along on this journey after having participated.
Our group was awesome with four young couples and two couples closer to retirement age. It was exciting to see the younger crowd including the Tidwells, Daltons, Jared Jacksons, and Carters thinking through what generosity looks like for their families. The weekend was incredibly positive and full of joy. I have pondered questions like: Where do I get my identity? Does my treasure reflect my heart? What do I treasure more than Christ? Can I accept and acknowledge that I am greedy and be willing to change my perspective? Am I willing to save money to give SACRIFICIALLY?
During Advent, I continue to think about my Journey of Generosity experience. I want to be so generous that I have the freedom to do some crazy things like: prioritize and give to someone in real need above my own extravagant desires and needs. I know that God will give me some unexpected surprises if I step out in faith. My needs will be provided for, and God’s spirit will abide in me. The spirit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Don’t miss the next opportunity to participate in the Journey of Generosity. Your connection with the other participants is invaluable and all who attend will come away with an open hand and changed heart.
