Prayer (conversation with Jesus) is mysterious. What is prayer? Does it change things? How do you do it? I can only answer these questions for myself as prayer is a very personal and individual “activity”. As the Kairos community, we are to encourage one another to follow in the way of Jesus. Jesus prayed (talked with God) daily. I guess that means I am to do it too. Prayer has come even more alive for me since Katie Gohde introduced the Echo prayer app to the Kairos prayer team. Often, prayer requests fall through the cracks in a church, but this has enabled me to stay connected and updated with prayer requests from our community and other prayer concerns even when I am traveling or living in NC. I try to send out a personal note or email when I receive these requests. Hopefully, a person feels that they are not alone when they know someone is really praying for them. I like to send these notes, because doing so, firmly puts on my heart the desire to pray daily, with the updates on the Echo app helping to keep the many prayer concerns accessible and organized for me. For some unknown reason, prayer makes me feel intimately connected with the folks that I uplift in prayer, even if I don’t know them. I trust that this is the Holy Spirit guiding me to focus on those who are suffering. Anyone can join the prayer team and have access to the Echo Prayer app by contacting Katie Gohde at kbgohde@gmail.com or miriam@kairosatlanta.org. Let’s be a community that prays. – Jo Ditzel |
