Dear Kairos Community,
At our church, we nominate and call a new class of Leadership Team members every year. The full team is made up of three classes of four, four, and five people for a total of thirteen people that each serve three-year terms. We have once again come to that time of year where we are calling upon our community to nominate people for the Leadership class of 2021. We are grateful to Tim Renjilian, Nancy Langham, Megan Brown, Jonathan Sturtz, and Nick Johnson for their three years of service on Leadership Team (four years for Jonathan!).
We have the gift (and I truly mean that!) of Presbyterian polity/governance to guide this process. It is a format that graciously takes most of the discernment weight off the staff and our current Leadership Team and places it in the hands of a committee formed for this expressed purpose. Recommendations from this committee are then brought to the larger Kairos community.
The process:
- Anyone (member or not) can nominate or self-nominate a person to serve on the Leadership Team, now through October 24th, by emailing nominations@kariosatlanta.org. Please include a brief explanation of why you feel led to nominate the person for the Leadership Team.
- A committee of five people made up of one current Leadership Team member, one former Leadership Team member, and three members of the community will then spend the next few weeks talking, praying, and discerning those who have been nominated.
- After worship on December 2nd, we will hold a congregational meeting where the committee will present four nominees they feel will best lead our church in this new season. Nominations will be taken from the floor, but the person being nominated must have agreed to be nominated before the meeting. The congregation will then vote to decide who will become the newest Leadership Team class.
I believe the more people we have engaged in this process: praying over who to nominate, having conversations about what kind of leaders our church needs, and nominating people, the more fruitful this vital part of our community will be.
To have a better understanding of what Leadership does, who is on it, and what the committee will be looking for, please read this overview. Also, please note that it is strongly encouraged that you talk to the person you are nominating to see if they are open to being on Leadership before nominating them.
I am excited to see who the Lord calls through your discernment and the ways God will use their gifts to encourage us in the way of Jesus. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Grace and peace,
