Dear Kairos Community,
The season of Lent has never been accused of being too nuanced. After all, it is an invitation to go to the cross. Put simply, the church sees Lent as time to give up ways we hide and distract ourselves and recognize where we need a Savior.
Yet Lent is not a season of guilt. Instead, it is a season that takes seriously the truth that guilt does not have the final word. As a faith community, we engage Lent because we know there are no paths to resurrection that do not go through the cross. The journey to Easter is a bold road of faith where we pray our need for Jesus is revealed. Because we believe, through the cross, God will meet and redeem us in that need.
Therefore, over the next 40 days, we are offering our community a variety of ways to tether ourselves to this truth. Below you will find a variety of ways to take seriously the bold invitation of Lent.
- Our Lenten sermon series is called âWhat Does It Cost?â addressing the topic of money. This is not six talks about giving, nor is it six weeks on why money is evil. Instead, we hope to explore the topic of money and see how we often use it to cover up our need for a Savior, or it is the reason we fear calling upon Jesus to be our Savior. Our prayer is that we will discover a faithful, life-giving perspective for our finances, and this topic becomes a catalyst to faith rather than a hindrance.
- Money is a hard topic to discuss in community, and it is not something we are eager to listen for what the Lord might have to say. Yet we believe both practices are important steps to engage money faithfully. Therefore, throughout this series, we will be sending out a daily scripture via text message to center our prayer life and a weekly conversation starter to have with someone from our community. If you would like to receive a daily scripture during the season of Lent, text keyword: Lent to 7606703130.
- To communally tie us to the Lenten season beyond Sunday, we will worship together on:
- Ash Wednesday, service on February 14th at noon (Kairos Church)
- Maundy Thursday, service in homes across Atlanta on March 29th at 7:30 pm
- Good Friday, service on March 30th at noon (Kairos Church)
- As Christians, we do thankfully stand on the other side of resurrection. Therefore, we cannot help but continue to enjoy God and each other in this season. In that spirit, we hope you will consider joining us for:
- Dinner Gatherings on February 25th. Click here to signup
- Lenten Class âJourney to the Cross,â Sundays, March 4-25 at 9:15am
- Menâs Night March 15th
- Easter Egg Hunt on March 31st
Friends, over the next 40 days, our prayer is we will seek the hope of the cross in bold topics, honest confession, and deep need. So, this Lenten season may we become a community desperate for Good News, believing that our God will meet us there with resurrection.
Grace and peace,
Drew
