We have some very exciting news to share with the Kairos Community: Matthew Straw has joined the pastoral team as our first Director of Student Ministries! As you see pictured above, we also want to welcome his wife Julie, and daughter, Foster. In July we announced that we were looking for a quality, experienced, energetic, and faithful person to begin and lead the first chapter of ministry to students at our church. We have found the right person in Matthew and I look forward to the impact he will have sharing and modeling the love of Jesus to our kids. The hiring of Matthew hits home for me personally for multiple reasons. One, I have two children who will be influenced and pastored by Matthew. Knowing that I have a thoughtful, creative, fun and charismatic person pouring into Ellie and Conner’s lives reassures me that Kairos is a place for people of all ages to encounter Jesus Christ in a meaningful way. Second, I am reminded of my middle school pastor, Ricky Page. Not having grown up in the church, Ricky was my first Christian role model and mentor. I spent countless hours with Ricky at youth group, running errands, at camps, and on mission trips. Ricky was the first person to encourage me to start reading and taking the bible seriously, and I attribute his faith and pastoral leadership as the first example of what it would look like to follow in his footsteps one day as a youth pastor. I invite you to join me as we welcome Matthew, Julie and Foster into our faith community. We hope you take the opportunity to meet them one day soon. Matthew and his family will be attending our Family Fun Night this Friday, and they will be here on Sunday where we will introduce him again during our worship service. Keep this a secret, but their might be a cookie-cake reception following the service…any reason to celebrate…right! – Joe |
